The
Chalten city is known as a capital for trekking
adventures. Starting point for trips to the Fitz
Roy and the Torres mountains (the tallest in the
Patagonia).
The Chalten town has a population of only 300. This
town is in Santa Cruz, Argentina. A variety of sleeping
accommodations for travelers are book able. Trekking
trips are plenty even dough they are scheduled basically
around the Fitz Roy and the Torres mountains.
When the option is to make shorter trekking trips
a tendency exists to go to the Capri lagoon. This
place offers tempting waterside camping grounds
with a marvelous view of the Fitz Roy.
On the way to the Fitz Roy we start of with a stop
in the Madsen camps making our way off to the valley
Chorrillo del Salto. Three ours separate us from
the White river and the Fitz Roy (3441meters height).
If travelers want to continue the trip, two hours
later we get to the midst of the "Threesome"
lagoon where you can see the "Dirty" lagoon
and the glacier it springs from.
Trekking to the Torres starts of in the Rio Blanco
campsite. It lasts around four hours and includes
walks thru Lenga Woods until we get to the Torres
lagoon. Floating icebergs add colors to the impressive
view of the Torre mountain (3128meters height),
the Mocho, Egger and Standhardt.
All this different trips allow us to admire natures
way of presenting lagoons, glacier watered rivers,
waterfalls and mountains. Animals like: wild rabbits,
red foxes, pumas and "mora" eagles live
inside the "lenga" and "ñire"
woods.
Although the Chalten is known for its trekking possibilities,
trips to the Desert, Viedma and San Martin lakes
are also offered.
