Travel to Argentina whit Patagonline

Climate of Argentina

When planning your visit to Argentina, the first thing to be taken into account is the date. This is especially true if you are going to the cold region of Patagonia, where both visits and activities are greatly affected by the weather.

The Patagonian winter is harsh. During June, July and August the roads freeze over, it is impossible to access the trekking areas and arriving to certain villages is hard given the lack of logistics and road maintenance.

If you travel to Argentina during high season (that is, from September to March) you will encounter much nicer weather since it is spring / summer there. During January, in Ushuaia (the 'End of the World') you will find the longest nights and a sky so broad that it merges with the horizon line.

Flights and entrance to the country (Argentina)

When traveling to Argentina, we must land in Buenos Aires, its capital. We can do so with any airline that takes off from your country and has an Argentinian route.

The 'Aerolíneas Argentinas' company works within the country together with 'Lan Chile'. In order to get one of their cheap flight promotions, it is convenient to purchase the flight bundle solely with the Argentinian airline. We recommend that you to use our Argentinian cheap flights tracker, where you will find the most convenient flight for your travel.

Traveling distances in Argentina

Argentina is a big country where, in consequence, long distances are to be traveled; that is why, during the trip, you must have in mind that taking multiple flights with 'Aerolíneas Argentinas' may risk connecting flights if there were delays. Furthermore, excursions last from morning to noon, which means that you will go out early and come back at night.

Try to spend at least three overnights in each destination: airport-to-hotel rides can take over 1 hour, and the average time for a flight is 2 hours, so that even while taking internal flights in Argentina you are likely to waste the first day.

If you travel by 4WD, read our road recommendations.

Sightseeing seasons in the Argentinian Patagonia.

You will be able to sightsee marine and terrestrial fauna in the Valdes Peninsula. The whale season officially begins on the 1st of July, and penguins come in September. Wolves and elephant seals can be seen all year round. Moreover, in the Patagonia you will be able to see even more fauna during your trekking: dwarf armadillos, foxes, guanacos, rheas, giant rodents and hares.

If you travel during a season other than the whales one (which goes from the 1st of July to the 10th of December) it is not mandatory to visit the Valdes Peninsula because penguins and sea lions are found all along the Atlantic coast. We recommend more barren places, such as Bahia Bustamante.

Clothing for your visit to Argentina

In a single Patagonian day we may find rain, wind, sun and cold, especially while sailing and along the Andes mountain range, where strong wind currents come from the West.

While preparing your suitcase for your visit to Argentina, you must bear in mind that climate varies from the North of the country to Iguazú or the Patagonia. As a rule of thumb, it is advisable to take some lotion with you (to combat dryness in the Patagonian coast) together with sunscreen, hat and gloves. Waterproof jacket and trousers, and high-cut comfortable shoes to walk over the rubble, will soon or later be necessary.

If you visit the Patagonia first and leave Iguazú for the end, it comes in handy to keep part of the luggage in Buenos Aires and fly to Iguazú, where the temperature is much higher, with light clothes.
